These new reels have some other manufacturers worried. Okuma focuses on the four D’s, design, drive, drag and durability as core performance elements. That’s the underlying design philosophy behind all new models coming from this giant. The new Makaira spinning reels are built from the ground up to be the toughest, most durable spinning reels an angler can own. They are constructed from the finest and strongest materials available. Just as the Makaira conventional reels turned the industry on it’s head, so too will these new spinning reels, for good reason:

Forged aluminum machine cut body, rotor, handle, spool & knob

Forged stainless steel main gear for power and strength

Oversized 17-4 grade stainless steel spool shaft – less flex

Precision machine cut stainless steel pinion gear

Hydro Sealed Body and Dual Force Drag system for maximum protection

Carbonite high output drag with Cal’s drag grease on full DFD

Customized Pre-set drag system, works like a lever drag reel

9HPB – 1 RB all corrosion resistant stainless steel bearings

Dual anti-reverse system for maximum strength and reliability

Quick-Set stainless steel German anti-reverse roller bearing

Right and Left hand models use different handles, greater security and strength, for user flexibility

Heavy duty, solid aluminum bail wire with manual trip

Last but not least, Makaira Spinning reels are backed by a 5 year limited warranty!

Those are some serious features, and they don’t tell the full story about these all machined aluminum framed, sideplate, rotor, spool beasts. These are powerful spinning reels like none other on the market – they are more like tanks than coffee grinders! Okuma took the fine points of their industry leading Makaira conventional reels and put ’em on a spinning! The Makaira drag system is unique, takes advantage of the complete surface area of the carbon fiber drag washers; making full contact with the carbon washers for maximum efficiency and drag output. The DFD (dual force drag concept) applies pressure to both sides of the spool in order to maximize use of the available surface area. Enlarging the working surfaces of the drag system dramatically improves heat dissipation. These reels are engineered to withstand the harshest conditions the ocean can offer. Makaira spinning reels have 23 different oil retaining o-rings and gaskets, water tight, all the internal mechanisms are sealed and protected from salt. The result is the best-of-the-best when it comes to big game fishing reels.

MODEL

BEARINGS

GEAR RATIO

LINE CAPACITY

LINE RETRIEVE

DRAG

WEIGHT

MK-10000

9HPB + 1RB

4.9:1

MONO 340/15, 280/20
BRAID 415/50, 290/65

40"

55-LBS

28.2oz

MK-20000

9HPB + 1RB

5.8:1

MONO 430/25, 330/30
BRAID 490/65, 400/80

51.6"

66-LBS

35oz

MK-30000

9HPB + 1RB

5.8:1

MONO 360/50, 300/60
BRAID 700/80, 570/100

65.7"

66-LBS

39oz
