Nomad Design Shikari 115 Slow Floating Jerkbaits

The Shikari 115 is Nomad Design's long-casting, shallow-running jerkbait: a 4-1/2 inch, 1/2 oz slow floater for inshore gamefish that are feeding just under the surface.

The distance comes from a tungsten weight transfer system. On the cast the internal weight slides back into the tail so the bait flies straight and carries; once you start winding, it rolls forward again and balances the lure so it sits level in the water instead of hanging nose-down.

How to Fish It

Snap the rod tip hard and the Shikari darts off erratically, turning as much as 180 degrees between twitches. That sudden change of direction is what draws the reaction strike. On a straight retrieve it settles into a tight nose-to-tail wiggle, and because it is a slow floater, a pause lets it hold in front of a following fish instead of popping straight back to the top.

It also works on the troll. Nomad rates it for casting and for slow trolling at 1 to 3 knots, where it swims with a pronounced body roll, and it runs about 1 m (3 ft) deep. That makes it an easy bait to drag along a kelp line, a channel edge or a bay shoreline.

The six colors cover sardine, mackerel and mullet patterns, plus the translucent Aqua Ghost and Holo Ghost Shad and the flash of Black Back Chrome. Every Shikari comes fitted with BKK Viper 4X #4 trebles.
