Avet MXL G2 5.8 Single Speed Reels

The MXL G2 5.8 is the wide-spool MX at its simplest: one gear at 5.8:1, no magnet, and room for a long mono topshot. It is the reel for someone who has already decided what he is doing and wants the spool capacity to do it. The MX size is settled at 40 lb and under, so this is not a reel you pick on line class.

On line capacity, which is what people ask about this one: 620 yards of 50 lb braid, against 470 on the narrow MXJ. The reason to step up is line format rather than line class. Mono eats spool space much faster than braid does, so 300 yards of 50 lb braid under a 100-yard 40 lb mono topshot fits this reel and will not fit an MXJ. The MXJ wants more braid and less mono, which suits plenty of people, just not everybody.
